Decode Self
What the app stores (on your device only)
Decode Self keeps the following in a private local database on your phone:
- Cycle settings you enter (cycle length, period length, period start dates)
- Daily logs you add (symptoms, notes, medicine, water intake)
- App preferences
By default this data never leaves your device. The core app has no account system, and nobody — including the developer — can access it.
Optional partner sharing (off by default)
If — and only if — you turn on Partner sharing and pair with a partner, a small, limited slice of information is synced through Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, Authentication and Cloud Messaging) so your partner's copy of the app can show it. This is the only feature that leaves your device.
- What is shared: only the signals you switch on — your current cycle phase, a fertility / intimacy-timing note, and the specific moods you opt to share (your Emotions logs and cramps). You see a live "what your partner can see" preview and can turn any signal off.
- What is never shared: your nourishment, meditation, notes, medicine, water, exact dates or full symptom history. Your partner's app can technically read only your single share record and nothing else — this is enforced by server-side security rules.
- Identity: pairing uses an anonymous Firebase sign-in. No name, email or phone number is collected. A random device notification token is stored so alerts can be delivered.
- Camera: used only, and only on the partner's device, to scan the pairing QR code. No photos are taken or stored.
- Notifications: when you log a mood you've chosen to share, your partner may receive a push notification so he can be supportive.
What the app does not do
- No collection of names, emails, or phone numbers
- No analytics or tracking SDKs
- No advertising
- No location, contacts, or microphone access
- No selling or sharing of your data with any third party
Network access
The app may download font files from Google Fonts when it first runs (font files only — no personal data). If you enable Partner sharing, the app connects to Google Firebase to sync the limited share described above. If you never enable Partner sharing, these Firebase requests do not carry any of your data.
Backups
Your device's operating system may include the app's local data in device backups (for example Android backup or iCloud backup) according to your OS backup settings. Those backups are controlled by you and your OS provider, not by Decode Self.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all data it stored on your device. If you used Partner sharing, tapping Unpair in Settings deletes the shared record from the cloud and stops all syncing; your partner immediately loses access.
Children
Decode Self is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16.

Decode Self provides general wellness information based on the dates you enter. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, and must not be used for contraception or to diagnose or treat any condition. Always consult a qualified health professional for medical questions.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes how it handles data (for example, adding optional cloud sync), this policy will be updated first and the effective date above will change.
